If you want to dance the night away at your wedding reception, there’s something you absolutely can’t go without: a dance floor. Some couples will be lucky enough to have a wedding venue that already has the perfect dancing spot, but others will need to go about renting a dance floor for their reception space. If you need to find the perfect foundation to party all night long, here is everything you need to know about renting wedding dance floors.
Get the Sizing Right
Rent a dance floor that is too small and you’ll deal with uncomfortable crowding. Rent a dance floor that is too big and you’ll have awkward empty spaces. So how do you find the perfect dance floor size? First, start with the number of guests you have. A good rule of thumb is that about 50% of your guests will actually be on the dance floor at any given time, so you should base your dance floor capacity off of that number. For example, if you have 100 guests coming, get a dance floor for around 50 dancers.
The next rule of thumb is to give each dancer about 4.5 square feet of dance floor space (or 9 square feet per couple). This means that, if you expect to have 50 guests on the dance floor (at a 100 guest wedding), you’ll want 225 square feet of dance space.
If you’re not one for math, don’t worry! Your dance floor rental company will be able to guide you in the right direction. Many will even have charts on their websites to help you find the perfect size.
Pick the Right Style
Not every dance floor looks the same! You’ll want your dance floor to seamlessly tie into the overall aesthetic of your wedding, and to compliment the look you are going for. Since it is such a large piece, the wrong dance floor can throw off the look of the reception. There is marbled, checkered, wood, LED lighted floors, and so much more – so you have plenty of options to choose from! Of course, not all dance floors will cost the same, so you’ll need to determine your budget and the size you need for the number of guests, and then pick a style within your price point.
Ask for a Quote
It’s important to understand not only what the actual floor will cost (in your chosen style and size), but what the entire process will cost. With a dance floor, you’ll need delivery, installation, and breakdown – so you need to make sure you are fully aware of all of the costs that come with this rental piece. As you’re shopping around, ask for quotes, and make sure they are including all necessary services so that you can accurately compare and contrast different vendors.
